A short trip to Afghanistan in February 2020 allowed me to capture some memorable images of this beautiful, though troubled, country.
BLUE MOSQUE
Perhaps the most striking landmark in Mazar-e-Sharif is the Blue Mosque, also known as the Shrine of Hazrat Ali, built in the 15th century.
MAZAR-E-SHARIF MARKET
Landlocked between Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, India and Pakistan, Afghanistan has many vibrant markets.
SURROUNDING AREA
Venturing out of Mazar-e-Sharif can be very rewarding, with encounters with camel trains common. Popular pomegranates are readily available at roadside stops and locals always generally welcoming.
